LinkedIn Headshots in Medellín

Most folks who come into the Laureles studio mention a new LinkedIn photo as one of their goals. Whether you’re job hunting, freelancing, or building a business here in Medellín, this is usually the first face people see. Here are a few thoughts on getting it right.

Have Something… Anything!

You need a photograph in your profile, even if it’s a cropped shot from a Sunday in Guatapé. A profile with a photo gets viewed many more times than one without. That’s huge when a recruiter is scrolling.

Be honest: what do you think of someone with a blank “no photo” avatar next to their name? At best they look too lazy to upload one. At worst they look like they’re hiding from somebody. Is that the impression you want to give a future boss or client?

Pro Is Better

I know this sounds self-serving coming from a headshot photographer, but just get a professional photo. A good headshot costs about the same as a nice dinner in El Poblado, lasts for years, and can’t be ruined by ají or a spilled tinto.

The same way a blank avatar gives a bad first impression, a real headshot projects the confidence and warmth you want people to see.

The Photo Is Your Front Entrance

Your profile photo is the front door of your shop. If the paint is peeling and the sign is crooked, people won’t come in to see the good stuff inside. A clean, professional headshot makes them want to walk in and learn about your degree, your work, and your experience.

And “professional” means more than studio lights. Good headshots have lighting and posing built around your face. You might get turned a little left or right, lit from a heroic low angle, or softened from above. Most important, a good photographer helps you relax and find your natural expression. There’s more to a session than most people expect, and it’s more fun too.

Get In Close

A note on cropping. LinkedIn photos show up small, so you want your face to fill that little frame. I like to crop from the top of the head to the top of the shoulders. Your face is where all the personality lives, so that’s where we aim.

Know Your Audience

Most of the time you want your photo to say “I can do the job” and “I’m not a jerk” at the same time. Depending on your field, we lean one way or the other. An abogado or a finance director might want more confidence. A pediatrician or a therapist might want more warmth. Angle, background color, light, and expression all shift the mood, and we play with the recipe during your session.
